2016 Festival Poster Artist

Mickey Asche

Born in 1963 in Louisville, Kentucky. He moved to Louisiana as a teenager with his family. In 2005, after 21 years as an aviation mechanic, Mickey made the decision to put down the wrench, pick up a paint brush, and to spend his days painting. Mickey is a self-taught artist, who first worked with watercolors but has since changed to oils. Growing up in Southern Louisiana, he was immediately drawn to depict the rich wildlife this area has to offer. Best described as a realist, he has a passion for all things in nature, but paints mainly of his personal experiences in the backwater swamps, marshes and bayous of the region. There has never been a time in his life when Mickey did not have a deep appreciation and passion for the outdoors and wildlife. Mickey’s philosophy, "If you find something you love to do, you cannot fail at it."

Mickey's work was selected as the featured Wooden Boat Festival poster art in both 2008 and 2010. Those original works are on display at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum. This year, he is once again honored to have his work featured on the poster.

Mickey is a member of The Society of Animal Artists and has been invited to show in national wildlife shows in South Carolina and Alabama along with some of the nation’s top wildlife artists. View some of his work at http://www.mickeyasche.com/mickeyasche/About.html.
